Montage will have to do analogue via its AWM or FM-X engines. Why? Because of the modelling synth engines. If synth sounds are important I would on tech specs alone (still have not tested a Montage) favour the Korg. And I love 80's music! lolĪgain, I know the synthesizers I am looking at are overkill - but I don't want some piece of plastic and I want something that looks like a real piece of equipment and not a toy as so many keyboard today do. I don't really want a stage piano - because I really do like a lot of the synthesizer sounds/instruments. I don't plan on recording or sequencing - just playing.

I know it is "overkill" but I am looking for an 88 key "synthesizer" that has the best grand piano sounds first and foremost - and then the other instrument sounds come secondary. Unfortunately there isn't a music store within 250 miles that carries either one. Have you gone to a music store and tried both? Obviously, Kronos has a lot of cheerleaders on a Kronos forum. Without more info from you, this is really subjective to how each feels and sounds to you. I will be using it mainly for the grand piano sounds 70% of the time - the other sounds 30% of the time. However, to an arranger or composer, the large sound palate will feel quite liberating, especially when you use them in conjunction with the built-in Sequencer mode. Does the Krome ex have a large sound palate?
#YAMAHA MONTAGE VS KORG KRONOS UPDATE#
This time, we’re reviewing the 2019 Krome EX, a much-needed update to the 2012 Korg Krome, which was starting to show its age, especially when compared to the similarly priced alternatives such as Roland’s FA-06 and the Yamaha MODX. The Krome actually predates the Kross, which introduces some complications to that basic comparison. How does the 2019 Korg Krome ex compare to the Kross Krome? In theory, we could easily say that the Krome is just an upgraded Kross, but things aren’t that simple. The Krome is one level above the Kross, while the Kronos is their most advanced workstation. What is the difference between the Kronos and the Krome? We loved it, but it focused much more on the performance aspect, leaving the arrangement capabilities on the side. One of our recent reviews covered the Korg Kross 2, which was a synthesizer-focused entry-level workstation. What is the difference between the Korg Kronos and Korg Kross 2? It appears that after 11 years, Korg have decided to discontinue the KRONOS line of music workstations, leaving the Nautilus as their new “top of the heap.” “Synthesizers / Keyboards” section of Korg’s web site. The Korg Krome 88 workstation has a ton of features to go along with all its other positive attributes. The combo’s are impressive, and fun to play around with as well. The synth leads sound great, and there are quite a few great pads and rhythmic synths.
